A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM CHAI AND SHAARE ZEDEK
Dear Chai Minyan community,
We are writing you today to announce that Friday night, March 31st will be the last minyan and dinner of the Chai Minyan at Shaare Zedek.
At a meeting in late February, we met with Rabbi Geffen to discuss how, over the past year, it has become clear to us that, as much as we love Chai, the minyan can no longer sustain itself. We believe that a minyan is founded with a sense of freedom from institutional ties, and that one core element of that freedom is being able to say with honesty and clarity that the time for the minyan has run its course. Sadly, for Chai that time is now.
Rabbi Geffen and the Shaare Zedek community have expressed to us their understanding and share with us both a sense of loss and also the belief that this decision is the right one at the right time. The entire Shaare Zedek community wishes to express their gratitude to the Chai leadership and membership for their dinners, Simchat Torah ruach, Purim parties, and all the wonderful memories we have made together; and want to express their heartfelt hope that the faces and personalities of the Chai community will continue to join with Shaare Zedek into the future -- especially as the congregation will, in the coming months, begin its transition into a new space.
The Chai leadership team would like to thank the previous members of Chai's leadership, and Shaare Zedek leaders for their commitment to Chai throughout the past seven years.
